If

Appointment. The probationary period is for

three years from the date of arrival in Hong Kong.

at the end of this period the officer's services have

proved satisfactory, she will be eligible, subject to

the approval of the Secretary of State, for confirmation

in her appointment. As a member of the Colonial Service

the officer will be subject to the Colonial Regulations

for the time being in force, and will be eligible to be

considered with other members of that Service, at the

discretion of the Secretary of State, for appointments

in other Dependencies. Officers holding appointments

in Hong Kong are subject to the General Orders issued

from time to time by the Government of Hong Kong. A

copy of the latest edition of the Colonial Regulations

is enclosed. The officer will be required to resign

her appointment if she marries.

2. Salary. The salary of the appointment is

at the rate of £330 per annwn for the first two years,

£360 per annum for the third year rising annually

thereafter first by six increments of £15 to £450, then

by one of £50 to £500 and then by four of £15 to £560.

The salary will not be subject to the temporary levy

on salaries at present generally in force in the Hong

Kong Government Service. From the date on which the

officer is placed on the pensionable establishment she

will be granted a non-pensionable residential allowance

of £40 per annum. This allowance is only payable while

the
